A cyber-physical system (CPS) is a system with a tight combination of, and coordination between, 
the system’s computational and physical elements.  A CPS is typically designed as a network of 
interacting elements and machines with smart analytics to achieve self-aware and self-configure 
intelligence.  The linkage between computational and physical elements will dramatically increase 
the adaptability, autonomy, efficiency, functionality, reliability, safety, and usability machine 

The objective of this industry forum is to discuss the challenges, opportunities, and possible 
applications of Cyber Physical Systems in future manufacturing and maintenance.  In this workshop, 
several critical issues such as "how can such a cyber- physical system be used in manufacturing 
and in particular maintenance technologies?", "what are the opportunities in advancing manufacturing 
technologies?" and "what are the challenges and issues in cyber enabled manufacturing" will be 
discussed by several distinguished panel members.
